Torn between two destinies?

Claire is having the perfect sixteenth birthday. Her pool party is a big success, and gorgeous Matthew keeps chatting and flirting with her as if she's the only girl there. But that night, she discovers something that takes away all sense of normalcy: she's a werewolf.

As Claire is initiated into the pack of female werewolves, she must deal not only with her changing identity, but also with a rogue werewolf who is putting everyone she knows in danger. Claire's new life threatens her blossoming romance with Matthew, whose father is leading the werewolf hunt. Now burdened with a dark secret and pushing the boundaries of forbidden love, Claire is struggling to feel comfortable in either skin. With her lupine loyalty at odds with her human heart, she will make a choice that will change her forever?.

----------------------------------------

Claire de Lune is my first read soley about werewolves.  I was interested in reading the book because though I'm not a huge Twilight fan, I did read the books (only got half way through Breaking Dawn), and I was Team Jacob.  I'm so glad I got to read it!

Claire's 16th birthday party is going well, she's attracted the attention of her crush Matthew, and forsees a great summer ahead, even with the news of the werewolve killings around her town.  Matthew's dad is a key player on the task force assigned to capture the werewolf,  so when Claire discovers that she herself is infact a werewolf, she realizes her and Matthew might as well be doomed.

Claire de Lune is Christine Johnson's debut novel, it wasn't oh my goodness great, but I believe it was good enough to land her a following.  I really liked her take on werewolves.  Some things really stood out for me, like that werewolves are all female.  Yes, no male werewolves in Claire de Lune.  There's no such thing.  Unique, and I liked!

At times the story slowed down, but it never got over the top boring.  I really enjoyed the growing relationship between Claire and Matthew.  You can tell in the beginning Claire is a timid, and shy person, but throughout the book she emerges into someone brave, and willing to stand up for what she believes.  That's always welcoming in a character your interested in.

Overall, I enjoyed Claire de Lune, and i'm looking forward to reading more from Christine Johnson.
