Boo! Scary Reads for October

The month of October is all about the scary, and there's nothing like reading in bed with all the lights on scared out of your mind.   I thought it was the perfect time to spotlight some great authors, and books for the ones that want to get SPOOKED!

Oldies but Goodies

The Haunting of Hill House
The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson

Rosemary's Baby
Rosemary's Baby by Ira Levin

Frankenstein
Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

In With the New
The Harrowing
The Harrowing by Alexandra Sokoloff

Heart-Shaped Box
Heart-Shaped Box by Joe Hill

The Shining
The Shining by Stephen King

I read The Shining last October and it did a great job of creeping me out.  Also, I really wanted to bring attention to Alexandra Sokoloff.  The Harrowing is one of my favorite scary books ever, and I have a couple more of her books in my TBR.  I will be pulling The Price off my shelves in a couple of days, I'm looking so forward to reading it.

Any scary books you can recommend?

  1. I met Alexandra Sokoloff at BEA this past year. I wasn't able to get any of her books though. My friend did and she loved them!

I'm always craving early John Saul around this time of year. Super spooky!

  2. Oh Rosemary's Baby! A good one!
I did not care for "Heart Shaped Box" it got old 1/2 way through.

"The Exorcist" was probably the scariest book I have ever read! Couldn't read it past 5:00!
