Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly meme hosted by The Broke and Bookish.

This weeks Top Ten Tuesday

Top Ten Books Recommended to Me

The Kite Runner

1.  The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini

Not a typical book for me, but had to give it a try when it was constantly being recommended to me.  I was totally caught up in this book, and I still consider this one of my favorites.

Match Me If You Can (Chicago Stars, #6)

2.  Match Me If You Can by Susan Elizabeth Phillips

So glad I listened to the librarian.  I read this in one day, and giggled the whole way through.  A great romance!

City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1)

3.  City of Bones- Cassandra Clare

This one was recommended by almost every blog I follow.  After so many great reviews I took the hint and got the book.  One of my favorite series.

Outlander (Outlander, #1)

4.  Outlander by Diana Gabaldon

Recommended by a friend when I said I was in the mood to read a big fat juicy book I could escape in.  I was definitely transported all ending with me cursing my friend for my lack of sleep, as well as the bags under my eyes.  I stopped reading this series after book 3.  Why? I don't have a freaking clue.  Maybe because of my new found fear of big fat books...hmm?

Shanghai Girls

5.  Shanghai Girls by Lisa See

Read a review by a blogger I completely trust, and picked it up at my local library.  Confirmed my good choice after librarian gushed about it while checking me out.  I mean come on she pushed me to read Match Me If You Can, if she recommends I'm getting.  She also recommended the movie Amelie to me by the way, and I love, love that movie.

Sloppy Firsts (Jessica Darling, #1)

6.  Sloppy Firsts- Megan McCafferty

Another friend recommendation.  Not done with the series yet, but i'll get to it eventually. Great young adult book.  It's raw, and real.

Heartsick (Gretchen Lowell, #1)

7.  Heartsick by Chelsea Cain

Recommend by blogger friend.  Not a huge thriller fan, but I'm so glad I gave this a try.  Need to get my hands on the latest, Night Season.

Firefly Lane

8.  Firefly Lane By Kristin Hannah

Actually was recommended the author.  I was just told pick any one of her books.  I went with Firefly Lane because  I already had a copy in my TBR, and I loved it.

The Help
9.  The Help by Kathryn Stockett

This one was recommended on the PBS forum.  So  many great characters.  Just a all around good solid read.

I Capture the Castle

10.  I Capture the Castle by Dodie Smith

Recommend by someone at a bookstore.  It was in the sale books for a dollar, and she said that was bargain because the story was at least worth 10 dollars.  How can you not buy the book after that, and for a buck to boot.

The book that has been most recommended to me is the one book I haven't read...Harry Potter.  I've gotten blank stares when I mention that I've never read any of them, then a "OMG".  Maybe this summer.

1.  Millie Peterson (The Tea Rose)
I'm currently reading the The Tea Rose, and she is such a bitch.

2.  Darcy (Something Borrowed)
Something Borrowed has been on mind recently because of the movie coming out. Who needs enemies when you have friends like that.

3.  Caroline Bingley (Pride and Prejudice)
What a snobby, spiteful person.

4.  Hilly Hobrook (The Help)
Nasty, nasty woman

5.  Catalina (Incantation)
Betrayed her best friend

6.  Mimi (Blue Bloods series)

That's all I can think of right now.

This week's top ten is

Top Ten Authors that Deserve More Recognition

1.  Kyra Davis- Her Sophie Katz series is one of my favorites. Her characters are fun, and the writing is witty, and hilarious.  I know when  I pick up one of her books I'm going to be entertained. One of my all time funny favorite line comes from her book Passion, Betrayal and Killer Highlights..
"Let me make sure i'm interpreting this correctly.  You cheated on your diet, gained a pound, and blame this on a self diagnosed thyroid condition"

2.  Craig Lancaster- 600 Hours of Edward and The Summer Son are such great reads.  I definitely think he deserves more recognition.  He hasn't failed me yet.

3.  Carol Goodman- Her books are such page turners. The Lake of Dead Languages and Arcadia Falls were excellent written books. I still have some of her books in my TBR that I haven't gotten to yet, but I know they will be awesome.

4.  Paullina Simons- The Bronze Horseman is one of my all time favorite books.  A epic story of survival and love.

5.  Chelsea Cain-  Writer of my favorite thriller series, the Gretchen Lowell series. I've yet to read The Night Season (bk 4) but I have read great reviews on it.  Can't wait to read it.  Gretchen Lowell is up there with Hannibal Lector.

6.  Patti Callahan Henry-  If you are looking for beach reads I highly recommend her, especially Driftwood Summer.

7.  Melissa De La Cruz- With all the paranormal YA series out there, the Blue Bloods series is one of the best, IMO. I think she kind of gets lost in the shuffle, and she shouldn't.

8.  Carlos Ruiz Zafon-  I'm surprised how many people have never heard of him.  Shadow of the Wind is one of my favorite books ever.  Seriously if you haven't read it, you need to RUN to your nearest bookstore and get a copy.

9.  Tom Perrota- He sure knows how to tell a story.  A great writer.

10.  Maeve Binchy-  Circle of Friends is the only book I reread.  I'm not a rereader but this book holds a special place in my heart.  After reading it I quickly dived into her other works, and they have all been great reads.  I blame her for my intense desire to go to Ireland.
